جنگ جهانی اول مثل بیماری وحشتناکی ، تمام دنیا رو گرفته بود. یکی از سربازان به محض این که دید دوست تمام دوران زندگی اش در باتلاق افتاده و در حال دست و پنجه نرم کردن با مرگ است از مافوقش اجازه خواست تا برای نجات دوستش برود و او را از باتلاق خارج کند . مافوق به سرباز گفت:اگر بخواهی می توانی بروی ، اما هیچ فکر کردی این کار ارزشش را دارد یا نه ؟ دوستت احتمالا مرده و ممکن است تو حتی زندگی خودت را هم به خطر بیندازی ! حرف های مافوق اثری نداشت، سرباز به نجات دوستش رفت. به شکل معجزه آسایی توانست به دوستش برسد، او را روی شانه هایش کشید و به پادگان رساند . افسر مافوق به سراغ آن ها رفت، سربازی را که در باتلاق افتاده بود معاینه کرد و با مهربانی و دلسوزی به دوستش نگاه کرد و گفت :من به تو گفتم ممکنه که ارزشش را نداشته باشه، دوستت مرده! خود تو هم زخم های عمیق و مرگباری برداشتی! سرباز در جواب گفت: قربان ارزشش را داشت . - منظورت چیه که ارزشش را داشت!؟ می شه بگی؟ سرباز جواب داد: بله قربان، ارزشش را داشت، چون زمانی که به او رسیدم هنوز زنده بود، من از شنیدن چیزی که او گفت احساس رضایت قلبی می کنم. اون گفت: " جیم .... من می دونستم که تو به کمک من می آیی!!! خیلی وقت ها در زندگی ارزش کاری که می خواهی انجام بدهی بستگی به این داره که چه طور به مساله نگاه کنی . جسارت داشته باش و هرآن چه را قلبت می گوید بده. اگر به پیام قلبت گوش نکنی، ممکن است بعد ها در زندگی دچار پشیمانی شوی.
