روزی استادى از شاگردانش پرسید: چرا ما وقتى عصبانى هستیم داد میزنیم؟ چرا مردم هنگامى که خشمگین هستند صدایشان را بلند میکنند و سر هم داد میکشند؟ شاگردان فکرى کردند و یکى از آنها گفت: چون در آن لحظه، آرامش و خونسردیمان را از دست میدهیم استاد پرسید: این که آرامشمان را از دست میدهیم درست است امّا چرا با وجودى که طرف مقابل کنارمان قرار دارد داد میزنیم؟ آیا نمیتوان با صداى ملایم صحبت کرد؟ چرا هنگامى که خشمگین هستیم داد میزنیم؟ شاگردان هر کدام جوابهایى دادند امّا پاسخهاى هیچکدام استاد را راضى نکرد. سرانجام او چنین توضیح داد: هنگامى که دو نفر از دست یکدیگر عصبانى هستند، قلبهایشان از یکدیگر فاصله میگیرد. آنها براى این که فاصله را جبران کنند مجبورند که داد بزنند. هر چه میزان عصبانیت و خشم بیشتر باشد، این فاصله بیشتر است و آنها باید صدایشان را بلندتر کنند. سپس استاد پرسید: هنگامى که دو نفر عاشق همدیگر باشند چه اتفاقى میافتد؟ آنها سر هم داد نمیزنند بلکه خیلى به آرامى با هم صحبت میکنند. چرا؟ چون قلبهایشان خیلى به هم نزدیک است.. فاصله قلبهاشان بسیار کم است استاد ادامه داد: هنگامى که عشقشان به یکدیگر بیشتر شد، چه اتفاقى میافتد؟ آنها حتى حرف معمولى هم با هم نمیزنند و فقط در گوش هم نجوا میکنند و عشقشان باز هم به یکدیگر بیشتر میشود. سرانجام، حتى از نجوا کردن هم بینیاز میشوند و فقط به یکدیگر نگاه میکنند. این هنگامى است که دیگر هیچ فاصلهاى بین قلبهاى آنها باقى نمانده باشد
